Along with the Basque and some Galicians, the Catalans were the first Spaniards that stepped into Australia.

The Catalan community in Australia is not huge in numbers, but it was very distinguished at the early 20th Century, especially in Victoria. Father Serra, Peter Gras-y-Fort, Ramon Pla, the Parer brothers... These people were the mainstay of the Catalan migrant community and the first ones to merge their original culture with the adopted one.
