This image of the Virgin was brought to Australia by the Xipell family. The Catalan families were known for their Catholic traditions even though they did not go to church regulary. Mary Claire Dalmau remembers a statue of a blessed virgin that her family brought from Spain. ‘she had like silk or velvet clothes on, and she had spears in her heart, and Aunty Rosa used to say 'they say I'm not a Catholic because I don't go to church, but look at my statue!'.
